Entering the home of Shu-Yu and Ida, founders of the vintage furniture store Indigo, feels a bit like discovering a hidden pocket of another world. Many European Space Age vintage furniture pieces from the ‘60s and ‘70s bring a unique charm to every corner, amplified by the Christmas lights they have adorned it with. After many holiday seasons spent focused on the store, this year Shu-Yu and Ida are taking a well-deserved break to enjoy a quiet Christmas in their beloved home, celebrating their bond, as well as the meaningful connections they’ve built through their store.
Before opening Indigo, both Shu-Yu and Ida worked as film art directors. Shu-Yu in particular had been collecting vintage pieces for a while, fascinated by the stories and marks left by different eras. The renovated old house they chose as their home provided the perfect setting for their collection, with its softly faded walls and retro terrazzo stairs. Today, Shu-Yu picked up his Roadster Small Crossbody Bag, which he uses as an art tool bag, and got to work adding finishing touches to the Christmas decorations around the home.
Ida joined Shu-Yu on his adventures collecting vintage furniture before the pandemic. Navigating the challenges of that time together, they became an important part of each other's lives, inspiring them to open a store where they could share the joys of home decor with the world. Immersed in this quiet time away from work, Ida has brought home some fresh flowers with her daily companion - the Diario Single Strap Tote - to highlight the celebratory mood in their space.
After many bustling holiday seasons, Shu-Yu and Ida finally relax and appreciate their space, allowing the delightful oasis they've created envelop them as they savor each other’s company in a rare moment of peace and quiet.
A UFO-shaped record player fills the room with Jazz melodies as Shu-Yu selects cherished vinyls collected during his travels. With music and holiday warmth in the air, their home becomes their favorite destination.
Feeling a creative itch, Ida pulls some art supplies from her Vainno Medium Square Backpack Waterproof to sketch their beloved pup, Boto.
Some gifts grow more beautiful with time. With a deep appreciation for items that carry our stories through the ages, Shu-Yu and Ida chose Tsuchiya Kaban leather pieces for each other this Christmas.
Celebrating their first proper holiday in a while, Shu-Yu and Ida welcome some well-deserved rest and relaxation in the space they’ve built together. We thank them for sharing their heartwarming story!
