The Kanchan family of three poses for a photo in a cozy room. The father, Adhikari with a beard and a beret, holds a child in a colorful knit sweater. The mother, Asumi wearing a fuzzy winter hat, stands next to them. Behind them is a low wooden cabinet with various bags and gifts, and a small tree branch decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments.

Celebrating Family and Tradition

The Kanchan family in Tokyo, Japan

In their corner of Nakameguro, where contemporary Tokyo meets classic downtown charm, the Kanchan family welcome the highlight of their year—a holiday season immersed in family connection and joyful traditions. Between running their restaurant ADI and tea house Chiyaba, Adhikari, Asumi, and their daughter Asa live a busy modern life—but the holiday season brings a change of pace, and treasured opportunities to connect with an important part of their heritage.

A detailed shot of a wooden cabinet with a dark background. On the cabinet, a collection of leather bags and wallets are displayed alongside festive, decorative items. The bags vary in color, including a large brown tote, a smaller reddish-brown shoulder bag, and a black clutch. A couple of candles are lit, and a small, decorated dry tree branch stands on the right, adding a warm, holiday feel to the scene. The overall lighting is soft and moody, highlighting the textures of the leather and the festive deco

As a Japanese-Nepali Hindu family, the Kanchans celebrate Dashain and Tihar in October and November: an almost month-long holiday period dedicated to reuniting, cooking, and sharing meals with loved ones.

Asa’s birth during the auspicious days of Dashain has made the celebrations even more meaningful. Adhikari fondly talks about whipping up traditional treats like sel roti (a spiced, deep-fried rice batter) and sending out family invitations to prepare for the celebrations—joyful, cozy rituals he now shares with his young family.

Back in Tokyo, our leather pieces are woven into everyday life as the family builds new traditions within the bustling urban landscape.

The Tone Nume Backpack—a timeless design crafted to showcase the evolving beauty of leather—becomes uniquely personal over time as it accompanies Adhikari through his daily routines. The classic drawstring top lends a touch of vintage charm, while the wide opening and spacious interior provide the practicality suited for an urban lifestyle.

Asumi carries the Diario Small Shoulder—a tastefully functional design that seamlessly complements ADI’s thoughtfully curated interior. From the delicate stitching to the subtle gusset, its every detail mirrors the care they invest in their space and the carefully sourced Himalayan teas they offer.

Celebrating their roots across two distant homes, the holidays are a time for the Kanchans to reconnect with their loved ones and traditions. We thank them for sharing the moments they cherish!
