A year after our first visit to Dário’s bookstore, Untitled, we’re back in this lovely space again. We caught up with Dário and revisited his beloved Diario Large Tote—but this time, we had the chance to delve into the contents of his bag!
Crafted from our Oil Mellow Leather, the Diario series is designed to to gain character, luster, and softness over time—which is evident in the now gleaming Diario Large Tote Dário uses almost daily.
Hey Dário! It’s so nice to see you and to be in this lovely space again. Thanks for
catching up and sharing about your Tsuchiya bag!
First question: Is this your work bag or everyday bag? When do you use your bag?
I use this bag every single day, whether it be for the beach with my kid, carrying my camera equipment around, at the vegetable market, when going to work at the bookshop, or meeting clients in my consulting work. It’s lovely to feel how it’s slightly softened and picked up scratches, giving it a unique beauty.
How does this bag relate to your personality or work?
This Tsuchiya ‘Diario’ bag perfectly aligns with my personality, as I’m kind of all over the place and doing so many things, but need something strong, refined, and practical.
What’s in your bag? Can we have a peek?
Absolutely … my phone, photo camera—my two main tools.
Laptop, usually one or two books: my current favorite book is rather large but it’s about Tantric Art in India. It’s super interesting—all about an occult and mysterious art form. Sometimes I get things for my shop and have to keep them for myself; this one is just one such example. Some tin fish, to eat. My massage tool, for muscle aches. Beanie—but it never gets cold in LA.
Keys, AirPods, collapsible BAGGU and a second BAGGU, wallet, hand cream, which I need right now, cause it gets so dry in LA! Sunglasses, photo camera batteries ... some coins, Staedler eraser—you need this when you have used books; this is the best thing for cleaning.
If someone found your bag and looked inside, what would they think of you?
They would probably think, "this is a crazy person" but also, "oh … they’re prepared for the apocalypse."
What’s the most important item you carry in your bag?
My camera for sure—you never know when that perfect photo will present itself to you.
What’s the strangest item you’ve carried in your bag?
A whole raw fish and some oysters (in a plastic bag).
