Guided by a desire to fully showcase the unfiltered beauty of leather, the Diario Collection is defined by its luxurious whole-cut construction. Each piece is crafted almost entirely from leather, with minimal use of additional materials, and finished with delicate stitching.

What Makes It Unique?

A decade into crafting this collection, our designers returned to this question to reexamine what defines the Diario Collection, and why it continues to resonate.

Their journey began with fieldwork—visiting neighborhoods that felt aligned with the Diario sensibility—observing the atmosphere of the streets, the shops, and the people. They also interviewed Tsuchiya Kaban team members who use Diario pieces in their daily lives, to learn about their lifestyle, values, and approach to choosing their essentials.

A common thread ran through these stories: Diario pieces are for those who treasure their time and find joy in everyday moments—especially through the things they choose to carry and care for.

Imagine picking out a bottle of wine for a friend, tucking it into your bag, and enjoying the stroll to their place. Or stumbling upon a florist, falling for a bouquet, and carrying it home—its blooms peeking out of your bag, adding beauty to your day.

These slow, intentional moments of carrying something meaningful is where the Diario Collection shines. The name Diario reflects this vision—like a diary, it's crafted to carry these moments, growing more personal and beautiful with each use.

Following the insights gathered from their fieldwork, the designers distilled the essence of the Diario Collection into three guiding words: 「自由」「余白」「無垢」—or Ease, Negative Space, and Authenticity.

Ease is expressed through the collection’s strong, clean lines and timeless silhouettes—conveying a sense of freedom in both form and function. Negative Space speaks to a “less is more” philosophy that allows for personal interpretation and versatile use. Authenticity is embodied through the bold silhouettes that highlight the natural, expressive qualities of the leather.

Though simple at first glance, Diario pieces reveal their complexity in the details. The large leather panels emphasize the leather’s natural beauty, while the carefully placed contrasting stitches and finely finished edges reveal the thoughtful handwork of our artisans.

As one designer put it:"The expansive leather panel is the star—but it’s the subtle intricacies, the refined finishes, and the expert decisions that create a quiet luxury. That’s the Diario signature."

Another defining feature of the Diario Collection is the natural, unembellished beauty of the leather. Our Oil Mellow Leather is thick and supple, with a smooth surface and a subtly luminous finish. From hide selection and tanning to dyeing, drying, and skiving, every step is handled with deliberate care. The result is a leather that feels rich with character and presence.

The leather’s translucent sheen and tonal depth enhance its captivating beauty. These qualities are achieved through the patient application of oil, layered two to three times for a fine finish while adjusting the subtle variations that can arise from factors like humidity or the touch of the individual craftsperson. It’s a quiet, careful process that brings out both nuance and uniformity.

The oil finish also preserves the natural markings of the hide, offering an authenticity that aligns beautifully with the Diario ethos.

Fifteen years since its debut in 2008, the Diario Collection continues to grow in its identity and appeal. With every outing, and every moment spent caring for the leather, it grows in its depth and beauty, offering a quiet sense of abundance to your daily life.
