from SHINYAKOZUKA Our Vision for This Collaboration
Moved by the dedication of our craftspeople, he sent us this heartfelt letter. READ THE LETTER
Dear Tsuchiya Kaban,
I was deeply moved by the words on your Randoseru page: "Carrying cherished memories—on our backs and in our hearts." This beautifully encapsulates Tsuchiya Kaban's philosophy and the true essence of the Randoseru, which was originally crafted as a school bag for children.
Tsuchiya Kaban has built a remarkable legacy of crafting quality bags that hold six years of school memories. This inspired me to imagine how we might create something to carry cherished memories for people of all ages.
What are the things we truly treasure over the years? After much reflection, I realized that memories are among them. Graduation letters from school, farewell notes from colleagues—these are mementos I can never part with. Whenever I stumble upon them during visits to my parents’ home, vivid images and warm feelings flood back. Letters are the very embodiment of the special moments and memories we want to cherish, no matter how many years pass by. Even my 70-year-old mother still keeps love letters from her youth, carefully tucked away.
Inspired by the Randoseru and the emotional significance of letters, I’ve designed a collection of bags meant to evoke the spirit of giving and sharing, much like letters themselves. The designs feature wax-seal-inspired buttons, a signature element in SHINYAKOZUKA items, alongside letter-inspired silhouettes, box-like structures reminiscent of the traditional Randoseru, and other distinctive Randoseru-inspired details. The buttons in particular reflect the sentiment of dedicating a letter to someone important.
With Tsuchiya Kaban's renowned craftsmanship, heritage, and the collaborative spirit of everyone involved, my hope is to create pieces that carry those cherished, vibrant memories so we can hold them close for many years to come.
Sincerely, SHINYAKOZUKA
