Bo Carney

Cofounder of Mohawk General Store, SMOCK, and Loose Wines

Bo and her husband, Kevin have created a world of style in Los Angeles and a culture of creativity and community around themselves. They are the embodiment of the idea “build it, and they will come.” They are the cofounders of Mohawk General Store in LA, which was the springboard for other businesses, a clothing label (SMOCK), and a wine label (Loose Wines)

From Seoul to Style

Bo was born and raised in Korea, and during her formative years, her family spent time in the US, where she became proficient in English and learned about American culture and style. After graduating college in Korea, she started a demanding career in film. In these early days of her career, she was able to develop her talent and work ethic and prove to herself that she was truly capable of doing anything. She sets her sights on her true calling, fashion.

Bo left Korea to attend school in Milan for an education in Fashion Business, and it was there that she met her now husband and business partner, Kevin. After Milan, the couple moved to LA and started a new venture, Mohawk General in Silverlake. At the time of its inception, the neighborhood was small but had potential. A few years later, they became a landmark, with stores and cafes popping up around them. Their audience started to grow, and they expanded into multiple locations. The store gave them the platform to launch additional concepts in clothing and wine, creating a universe of cool.

Their family grew as well, they now have two small children and a full life. Bo is the ultimate multi-tasker, balancing motherhood, work, and self-care - all the while looking exceptionally chic. Her personal take on fashion perfectly aligns with the store's ethos, an emphasis on effortless style suited for daily life. Clothing and shoes from a global mix of designers are antitheses of fast fashion. Bo's mirror selfies in the store show creative ways to combine the newest pieces in the shop, often paired with her Tsuchiya Kaban Editor Bag, (available to purchase only on the Tsuchiya website). The Editor Bag straddles the line between elegance and everyday, a structured silhouette, but in soft leather. The size makes it easy to wear in any situation, from the office to dinners out.

Bo knows that if it’s “made in Japan,” it must be good, she has shopped the globe and brought back with her the best-of-the-best to share with her customers.  Having spent time in Japan, she has a lot of trust and appreciation for the level of quality and craft you can find there.  Some of our Tsuchiya Kaban leather craftspeople have worked at our atelier for almost 30 years, that’s an experience you can see in every stitch, especially if you have a keen eye like Bo’s.

We are grateful to count Bo as a Tsuchiya Kaban fan and for showing us around her beautiful shop!
