Italian Box Calf

Supple Luxury: Exceptionally Smooth, Rare Calf Leather
Our Italian Box Calf is produced by ILCEA, a historic tannery in Italy belonging to the renowned Vecchia Toscana S.p.A. group, rated Gold by the Leather Working Group (LWG) for its sustainable practices. Made from the hides of calves less than six months old, this leather is exceptionally rare. Its naturally fine, smooth grain and firm yet supple body make it ideal for creating leather pieces that are structured, refined, and distinctly luxurious.
The production process is meticulous: After chrome tanning, the hides are drum-dyed and fatliquored, then dried. A vibration treatment follows to relax the fiber structure, enhancing softness and suppleness. The color is finished with an aniline dye, and for certain shades, a subtle pigment layer is added to achieve depth and tone stability. Finally, a light resin-and-casein topcoat is spray-applied and iron-finished, ensuring a refined sheen and lasting beauty.
With time, the leather evolves beautifully: as it molds to the hand, a soft luster emerges, deepening the color and giving each piece a unique patina. Subtle natural markings—such as delicate tonal variations, or small dark points—may appear, especially in lighter shades. Far from flaws, these details are what make each item truly one of a kind.
The Look of Natural Leather
We have chosen to keep natural markings such as scars, wrinkles, veins, and pores on the cowhide to showcase the natural appearance of the leather in our products. This is one of the most distinctive features of our bags. The appearance of the leather will vary depending on the part of the hide and individual differences between animals. Through careful observation, you will uncover your leather product's unique, one-of-a-kind appearance.
